Last Thursday, April 11th, another BicPop-Up event took place in front of Radiona Re-Geppetto, where participants, with the help of volunteers Leja and Goran, repaired, patched, and fine-tuned a total of 9 bicycles! From flat tires to faulty brakes, all problems were quickly resolved with joint effort and volunteer support.
The event was held in a great atmosphere, and visitors not only fixed their bicycles but also had the opportunity to learn new skills, exchange parts and advice, and get to know their bikes better. This pop-up event, modeled after the Biciklopopravljaona in Zagreb run by Zelena akcija, demonstrated that there is significant interest in such activities in Pula.
What is BicPop or Biciklopopravljaona?
It’s a place where bicycles are repaired together – participants carry out the repairs themselves with the help of experienced volunteers. Biciklopopravljaona operates on a "do-it-yourself" principle, with the goal of providing space, tools, and advice so that everyone can learn how to fix their own bikes. Unlike traditional bike services, here you don't leave your bike for repair; instead, you actively participate in the process. Volunteers are there to offer guidance and support, but your own willingness to learn and engage is expected.
This initiative is part of Zelena Istra's efforts to establish a permanent Biciklopopravljaona within Radiona Re-Geppetto, and as they say, these pop-up events are just the beginning. The organizers hope that this concept will take off and encourage the community to engage more frequently in self-maintenance and use of bicycles.
With a good team, tools, and a bit of willpower, fixing a bike has never been easier!
