Launch of the new project "Communities Go Circular"

On Wednesday, November 23, a workshop was held in Zagreb to strengthen the capacity of organizations working on the topics of reuse and repair. This event is the first activity of the new project called "Communities Go Circular", which is implemented within the EU Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Program (CERV). The focus of the project is on reuse and reduction of waste generation (REDUCE, REPAIR, REUSE). The project lead is Zelena Istra, and the partners are Zelena akcija (Zero Waste Croatia), Ekologi brez meja (Zero Waste Slovenia), KNOF and Zero Waste Italy.

Through this project, we will provide education on the subject of Repair&Reuse, encourage the opening of new Repair&Reuse centers, ensure the sustainability of existing repair cafes such as Radiona Re-Geppetto, networking of organizations that deal with these topics, encourage changes in the waste management system and contribute to mitigating climate change.

The main goal of the "Communities Go Circular" project is to involve citizens in the creation of zero waste communities aimed at preventing waste production, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to mitigating climate change. The direct participation of 1,058 citizens and 61 CSOs and 115 decision-makers is planned. In order to achieve the goal of the project, we will conduct 26 workshops for citizens, 5 workshops/education for decision-makers and stakeholders; 2 seminars for CSOs; 4 international conferences in Pula, Krško, Ljubljana and Tuscany and a series of advocacy activities. The project started on November 1, 2022. and will last until November 1, 2024.

As part of the two-day event in Zagreb, a "kick off" meeting of project partners was held. At the meeting, the partners became more familiar with the activities in the project and the time plan for the implementation of the activities. Administrative and financial obligations and the communication plan for the implementation of the project were also discussed. This meeting was very useful, and the organizations will now devote themselves to the preparation and implementation of planned activities on the topic of reuse and reduction of waste generation.
