This was an educational and research project that aimed to raise awareness on the importance of ponds and freshwater aquatic habitats, as well as strictly protected plant and animal species that live in and around these habitats in the Istrian County of Croatia. The project promoted non-institutional education, research, and an interdisciplinary approach to learning.
Throughout the project, we conducted a series of workshops, organized excursions, and led a three-day camp for gifted elementary school students. The project was carried out in cooperation with the public institution Natura Histrica, the Istrian Botanical Society, and Scouts of Istria. Financing was provided by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports. The results of the Kalić project are presented in a free publication, which you can download here.
