Repair café and workshop Re-Geppetto of the Community Center Rojc

The Re-Geppetto repair café and workshop is a well equipped space where citizens can repair their broken items and devices on a "do-it-yourself" basis, free of charge.

The purpose of the repair café is to provide all interested people with the space, tools and advice needed to repair and refurbish small household appliances, furniture, clothes and toys on their own or with the help of our repair specialist Marko.

Owners of broken and damaged items can find various types of tools at Re-Geppetto, that are usually not worth buying for a one time repair. All those interested can also benefit from Marko’s support, as he has the necessary repair and teaching skills. Volunteers who have various skills  (electricians, seamstresses, carpenters …)  and are willing to share their knowledge with others within the "repair café" program, once a week or once a month, are also welcome.

The action "Repair Cafe Re-Geppetto  - circular communities and art" carried out by Green Istria received the award for the most outstanding action during 13th edition of the European Waste Reduction Week (EWWR).

As part of the Re-Geppetto programme in period 2021/2022 many free upskilling workshops will be organized, as well as various public actions from bike/skate repair events to swap parties. Also, DIY shabby chic furniture, composters, vertical gardens and natural cosmetics workshops will be held, as well as those focused on screen printing, sewing and mending and zero waste creative. We are also planning numerous public actions for landscaping the Community Center Rojc garden and creating equipment like benches, waste bins, etc.

Follow our announcements in the News section and on the Re-Geppetto’s Facebook page, where all dates of events and workshops will be announced.

Re-Geppetto’s working hours:
MON, WED, FRI: 8-16 h
TUE, THUR: 12-20 h

In addition to promoting sustainable consumption patterns, repair cafés such as Re-Geppetto seek to build stronger and more resilient communities. These are socially inclusive places, their volunteers-specialists and visitors of all ages share knowledge and skills, from sewing to soldering. Education is built into the process through face-to-face interaction between specialists and those who bring things that need repair. The repairs are always done together with the owners of items watching and learning along from those with repair skills, as the goal is to empower people to repaire their own things.

A repair café ensures that broken items don’t become waste, people save money, the life span of  products is extended, waste generation reduced, and the local community gets a valuable opportunity to actively participate in establishing a sustainable circular economy.

Do you have the repair skills carpentry, tailoring, etc? Maybe you are a retired electrician, electrical engineer, carpenter, tailor or seamstress? Do you want to spend two hours a week or a month in a pleasant environment and pass on your valuable practical skills to the younger generations?
